Properly measure your kids feet length and fitting the shoes are a must-have for kids of all ages, including babies and toddler. Wearing footwear that isn’t well fitted, either too small or too big, might lead to a poor feet growth and development in the future. or properly designed for their delicate, growing feet can lead to poor development and foot problems down the road.
What happens when their shoes do not fit
Smaller shoes tend to hurt little feet. It restricts their movement, and often leave blister or mark on their skin as a sign of the shoes pressing their feet hard. Bigger shoes are easier to observe. They tend to fall out when your kids walk, or your kids’ heel lifts out of the shoe when they walk. Sometimes, this causes the kids to drag their feet when walking. Unfitted shoes, either too small or too big, definitely affect the way your kids walk.
So how to know if their shoes do not fit?
The easiest one to know is when they tell you. “Mommy, my feet hurt. The shoe is too small.” or “I don’t want to put on this. It is difficult to walk with.”
But not all kids tell us their concern, and for babies and toddler, they cannot speak their mind yet. Observe the way your kids walk and check their feet skin condition regularly.
The best fit children’s shoes
There should always be enough space in the toe box for kids’ feet to grow and move naturally. Press the tip of your thumb down with kids’ feet inside without hitting their toe. 8 to 10 mm space gap is sufficient.
Get involve in choosing the shoes they like. Ask how they think about the shoes and check all shoes part to ensure they are well fitted. Ask your kids to walk, sit, jump, dance, and jog around to ensure they are really comfortable with the shoes.
Tips & Tricks
- If your kids’ shoes are slightly too big, put on socks when wearing their shoes might help to reduce gap between. After they grow bigger and the shoes are more fitted, you may stop putting on socks.
- If you are not sure when to change small shoes, it is better to put on flexible lightweight shoes, such as LUCA shoes. When your kids’ toes are jammed against the front of the shoes, it usally leaves mark. With LUCA flexible leather, you can see the front of the shoes starts shaping based on the kids’ feet.
